Tyrone GA Real Estate

Approximately 25 miles south of Atlanta is Tyrone, Georgia. This small town was first settled in the 1800s by Irish farmers. In 1911 the town became incorporated and was supposedly named for its likeness to County Tyrone in Ireland. The railroad workers supposedly came up with the moniker.

Cotton was the main business of the area and due to the large industry the town of Tyrone grew significantly. Of course, things didn’t change significantly until the 1930s when electricity was introduced. Then, in 1933 phone lines were set up and serviced a total of five phones. Streets were paved in 1948, streetlights were installed in 1954, and paved sidewalks became a reality in 1959.

In fact, there are homes that were built in the 1800s by some of the first settlers in the area that are still standing today and being used as homes. In fact, growth has really been seen in the last five years with at least a hundred new homes being constructed each year, and close to 200 homes some years. The average price of the homes has been increasing as well.

The Town of Tyrone, Georgia may be small, but it definitely offers plenty of recreation options to its residents. There are three parks individuals can enjoy and these include Shamrock Park, Redwine Park, and Handley Park. Other recreational activities include baseball, softball, and soccer. There are gymnastic classes as well as other physical activity classes offered as well. Folks who live in Tyrone, Georgia may be in a small town, but they have all the options for recreation one could want.

Tyrone is located about 25 miles from Atlanta. But, some of the closer towns include Peachtree City, Fairburn, Palmetto, Union City, Fayetteville, Sharpsburg, Turin, and Senoia.
