Newnan, Georgia was named for a general from North Carolina named Daniel Newnan. In 1828, Newnan became the county seat of Coweta County and still remains so today. Slavery was big in the area in the early 1800s thanks to the cotton farmers. Because of this doctors, lawyers and merchants started moving to Newnan. The population started growing and continued at a slow pace for many years.
